First there were mandals, then came murses, manpris and muggs (man-Uggs) and now, my friends, we have mangagement rings. Yes, you read that correctly - mangagement rings. It's 2010 - women are proposing and same sex marriage is widespread, so it only makes sense that the jewelry industry get in on the "engagement rings for men" game - right?
Mangagement rings are pretty inexpensive (averaging around $130) are usually subtle, simple and made of tough, sturdy material like Titanium or Tungsten Carbide. It seems too that a guy wearing a mangagement ring wouldn't need to purchase an additional ring to wear as a band, although I'm sure the jewelry industry would argue otherwise. Most guys are likely uncomfortable with the concept, but as sales and inquiries for men's engagement rings are on the rise, in the words of Carrie Bradshaw, I couldn't help but wonder:
Is it a sign of the times or clever marketing? Either way, the Mangagement Ring is here to stay.
