Fancy Diamond Floral Engagement Ring

So perfectly amazing.  Today's ring makes our top ten list of unique engagement rings we've seen this year.  Made from a myriad of fancy colored diamonds, this ring belongs to a bride engaged about a year ago.  Her fancy white diamond center stone is surrounded by a delicate halo and enclosed in petals of fancy pink diamonds.  After working in the diamond industry for 11 years, she had no doubt that she would choose a fancy color diamond when she got engaged.  Whats not to like?

About this ring:   Both the design and the fact that I have used fancy color diamonds is fairly unusual for an engagement ring, however, I have always been a sort of a pioneer and I love the fact that I have something so unique! Just as a side note: I actually debated between 2 different stones to use as a center stone – one being the Fancy White and the other Champagne or Cognac . These Champagne and Cognac diamonds are not expensive, but very unique.

4 things you may not know about Fancy Colored Diamonds:

1. Natural Fancy color diamonds are extremely rare and less than 1% of all the diamonds mined for the diamond industry are fancy color.

2. Out of this small quantity less than 1% are red diamonds.

3. Fancy color diamonds are purchased almost exclusively for their color intensity and color distribution which are the main influencing factors in regards to their price.

4. Prices for fancy color diamonds are increasing due to their demand while prices for white diamonds have decreased quite substantially.

RingSpotlight: Etienne Perret

Ever consider a wedding band of colored diamonds?  This morning, we'd like to showcase colorful and playful wedding bands that are not only unique, but stunning. Made by fine jewelry designer Etienne Perret from Camden, Maine, the bands are set with color enhanced natural diamonds.  Etienne specializes in colored jewelry set in 18 k gold, platinum, and hi-tech Gem Ceramic.  

We love the idea of adding color to the wedding band and think these would pair wonderfully either with a simple single solitaire engagement ring (so as not to add too many dimensions to the set) or stacked on their own in a set of two, three or four!

Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring

We have quite a ring to share with you today. Yes, it is a one of a kind yellow diamond set in two rows of tiny diamonds from celebrity jeweler Alan Friedman. The double halo setting of the ring is similar to the cushion we featured in July and oh how we adore this look.  Simply fabulous and and we are hoping to follow up to see what type of wedding band she picked to complement it!

Check out the "press section" on his website. He has quite a resume...Janet Jackson & Carmen Electra rocked engagement rings from his collection. I almost passed out in the store! He has amazing stuff and he worked personally with my fiance selecting the ring. Everything is one of a kind. We never looked at rings together & he surprised me with mine big time! It has both yellow & white gold accents so it matches all my jewelry"

An Engagement Story: "He whisked me away for a little pre-Christmas getaway at the St. Regis hotel in Dana Point. The St. Regis is special to us because we stayed there when we first started dating. I thought we were just having a nice lunch and spa day but he clearly had something up his sleeve. After appetizers and champagne overlooking the grand lawn, we took a walk to catch the shuttle to the beachfront restaurant. We stopped along the way in the Botanical Garden (per his suggestion) where the gazebo was decorated with rose petals and tea light candles spelled out 'Marry Me?.' It was amazing! We enjoyed the garden for about an hour before heading into the spa for a couples massage, and later family joined us to celebrate that evening at the hotel (what a great surprise!)."  

Celebrity Engagement Ring: Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum sports a gorgeous yellow diamond, also called a Canary diamond, which is the most popular of the fancy colored diamonds (yes, fancy is a word commonly associated with colored diamonds). With white diamonds, we tend to focus on cut and clarity as a measure of the stone's brilliance, but Fancy or Colored diamonds are all about the hue!

About the ring: Fancy yellow oval cushion cut 10 carat diamond set in a thin band of small yellow pave diamonds. Estimated to be worth over $150,000.

 

Heirloom Pear Shaped Yellow Diamond Ring

We love heirloom rings, and even more so, love hearing the anecdotes that go along with them.  Today's ring is a pear shaped yellow diamond that has been passed down from mother to daughter.  Its vintage feel and unique setting is definitely eye catching.

Also called a teardrop, pear shaped diamonds are a combination of round or oval and marquis cut - with one side of the stone rounded, and the other tapered. Brilliant cut pears usually have 58 facets, and sparkle nearly as much as the more common round diamond.  Some even say that pear shaped diamonds enhance the length of the finger.

A Jewelry Story: My father gave it to my mother in the 80s (I remember her going into the store many times looking at it and longing for it.) She wore it every day on her right hand and after she died it is the only ring of hers that I've sized to fit my hand (she had TINY hands) and sadly, I've only found a few occasions to wear it.
