This morning's cocktail ring is so delicious I just want to eat it up. It oddly reminds me of the everlasting gobstopper candy from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This ring boasts rubies, emeralds, and sapphires with a swirl of round brilliants all set on white gold. Mmmmm..

RingSpotters loves cocktail rings. We love the bold colors, spirited designs, and chic edge they give an outfit. Who knew that cocktail rings became popular during the prohibition in the US? Apparently, women wore these fashionable pieces at illegal "cocktail" parties -- always dressing up to the nines and showing of their glamorous bold rings. Soon enough, these cocktail rings became status symbols in the '40's and '50's and have continued to be fashionable, chic, and definitely fun to wear.
This week, we would like to feature to some fabulous cocktail rings we have received. From colorful gems to diamond studded pieces, they are definitely excellent accessories and eye candy galore.

Today's feature is a continuation of Tuesday's post...so get ready to see the awesome photos of how the ring transforms from a rough, dull unfinished piece of metal to a sparkly and beautiful engagement ring!
Cut off the sprue....
Just barely the beginning of grinding off bubbles and starting to smooth things out. Next time you see it, it will look totally different, smooth, shiny and perfect! After plenty of careful hand work, it will sit in a tumbler overnight that polishes it amazingly shiny. Got one bent prong too, no problem, that's normal. It will be straightened out.
There is still some fine tuning to do with the prong alignment, polishing, etc.
Here are the boys...natural rubies.
Ready to be presented to the unsuspecting bride-to-be
Cut: Princess Cut with 2 ruby sidestones
Setting: 14 carat white gold three stone prong setting
UPDATE:
This ring was made by the very talented David Scott Cole who makes unique handmade jewelry. Do check out his site and his Etsy store!

Its not often that we get to experience the process by which a man selects a ring for his beloved, but RingSpotters was lucky enough to receive detailed documentation of one man's journey to design the perfect ring for his bride to be. We hope you enjoy this short narrative of his process.
Early sketches...I knew I wanted some combination of diamonds and rubies...the princess cut seemed to make sense.
I found this on a google search and we changed the middle stone to a ruby.
I was originally going to have the ruby in the middle and diamonds to the sides, but received a random text in July and she changed her mind on diamonds - and loved how sparkly they are. I immediately called to switch the combination.
Here's the 14k white gold. It comes in the form of little roundish nuggets, almost exactly like Nerds candy.
The wax is (was) inside the white cylinder in the foreground, but the insane high temperature vaporizes it, leaving a hot, empty mold. That thing with the hole in it is the crucible. The gold will be melted in that. This is also pre-heated in a kiln as well.
Melting the gold with the torch. The crucible and mold are oriented sideways on this spring-wound centrifuge When the red knob is pulled, everything spins really fast and it slings the molten metal sideways into the mold.

This is what comes out of the mold, rough and ugly with bubbles and plaster dust all over it.
Thats all for today folks! Tune in on Thursday to see the finished (and gorgeous!) product. We know, the suspense is killing you!

We fall in love with rings every day...but this ring makes us want to reach out, grab it, and slip it onto our own fingers. We love the dramatic contrast of the rich sapphire blue surrounded by the baguette and round brilliant accents...the colors just POP!
Cut: Blue Sapphire Center stone surrounded by 12 baguette and 18 round brilliant diamonds
And a little special addition to today's post: the matching earrings!
